Kent speaks out on new Energy Plan

MOUNT PEARL & PARADISE, NL - Steve Kent, PC candidate in the District of Mount Pearl North in the upcoming Provincial General Election, wishes to express his congratulations to Premier Danny Williams and his dedicated team of professionals for their work on the development of the Provincial Energy Plan, Focusing Our Energy.

“This is a exciting time for our province,” says Kent. “The Williams-led Government has come through again with a visionary and progressive initiative.” Kent has particular praise for the focus on aggressively pursuing refining, petrochemical, and other value-added secondary processing opportunities.

“Our energy industry is evolving,” says Kent, “and, unlike our fish, which is caught off our shores and often processed in other parts of the world, the goal is to have our oil refined in Newfoundland and Labrador by Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. It is the next logical step in growing our industry. We want to grow our expertise and expand our capabilities. We don’t just want to simply export our oil. We want our companies to export their knowledge all over the world from their home base right here in Newfoundland and Labrador. We want to be competitors on the global scene.”

Mr. Kent also expresses his disappointment with the reaction from the Official Opposition, and in particular, their Leader, Gerry Reid.

“There was, and there is, a constructive role for the Opposition to play in the political process,” stated Kent. “Unfortunately, Mr. Reid has chosen to pass.”
